Why House Mice Are Common in Firethorne & Tamarron
House mice are the dominant rodent issue across both communities, and the reason traces back to how recently this land was open prairie. Firethorne broke ground in 2005 on roughly 1,400 acres of Texas prairie, while Tamarron followed in 2014 on similar open ground near FM 1463 and Katy-Fulshear Road, in both cases, construction pushed field-dwelling mice toward the nearest structures instead of removing them from the area. Neither community has the decades-old tree canopy that draws roof rats, so entry pressure stays low and close to the ground: foundation gaps, utility penetrations, and garage thresholds. The lakes and greenbelt trail systems both neighborhoods are built around, including Tamarron’s lakeside pavilion area, keep grassy edge habitat close to backyards, which is exactly where house mice stage before moving indoors as temperatures drop.
