Two key rat types dominate Katy homes
Roof rats are the climbers. They use oak trees, fence lines, and power lines to get up onto a roofline, then move into attics, soffits, and the space above garages. They’re the more common rat across Katy and the wider Houston area, the mild winters and heavy tree cover along streets in Old Katy, Kelliwood, and Cinco Ranch give them an easy route in.
Norway rats are the diggers. They stay low, burrowing near foundations, slab edges, and drainage areas, you’ll find them more around detention ponds, drainage ditches, and older commercial strips than up in an attic.
